    Collection Overview

    The mammalogy collection includes approximately 3,500 specimens. Most of the specimens consist of study skins and skulls. The collection also includes partial or complete skeletons for many species. The skins of large animals have generally been prepared as tanned hides.

  • A Note on Classification

    Taxonomists are constantly integrating new information, which can result in the renaming and reclassification of species. The names used on this site are based on the following sources: The Revised Checklist of North American Mammals North of Mexico (Occ. Papers, The Museum, Texas Tech Univ., no. 229, 01 Dec. 2003)and on the latest online edition of Wilson and Reeder's Mammal Species of the World maintained by the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution.
